Printable weld log and welder continuity log (free PDF)

By the All Things AI team Updated

A welder's qualification under AWS D1.1 or ASME Section IX lapses if you go more than six months without using a process, so the record that matters most is a dated log of every weld, with the procedure you followed and a signature from someone who saw it. This sheet gives you one line per weld and a column for when continuity next falls due.

One landscape page, 14 rows. Free to print and copy; no sign-up.

What inspectors and QC managers look for

How long to keep it: No retention period is stated in the codes. Wisconsin DOT asks for welder continuity records covering the past 2 years. Wisconsin DOT form DT2337

Not affiliated with the American Welding Society or ASME. Codes, project specifications and your employer's QC manual set the actual requirement; this sheet is a convenience.

Filling it in

  1. Write one line for each weld or each day you use a process, whichever your QC manual asks for.
  2. Record the WPS number exactly as it appears on the procedure; inspectors match it to your qualification record (WPQ).
  3. Ask the supervisor or inspector to sign or stamp the line the same day, not at the end of the month.
  4. Fill in the continuity date (the weld date plus six months) for each process so a lapse never surprises you.
