Window Seat privacy policy
Last updated: October 29, 2026 (version 1.0 for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch)
The short version
- Your location stays on your phone. We never receive your location, your route, your destination or the places you pass.
- Your players, scores, trips, Family Atlas stamps and Trip Reels are stored on your devices. We never see them.
- Anonymous product analytics (Google Analytics for Firebase) tell us which features are used. No advertising identifier, no location, no route, no names, not linked to you, not used for tracking or ads.
- Nothing is sent to our notification service unless you allow notifications. If you do, your device registers with it only so we can deliver the notifications you chose.
- No accounts, no ads, and we never sell data.
1. What stays on your device
Window Seat is a road trip game for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch on the App Store, built by All Things AI, Inc. Everything the game keeps (the players and seats you set up, scores, trips, Family Atlas stamps, best scores, Trip Reels and settings) is stored on your device. We do not run a server that receives it, and we never see it. You can erase the Atlas in Settings → Reset Atlas, and delete everything by deleting the app.
2. Location
Window Seat uses your location only while a road trip is running, to know where the car is on the route and time the challenges. While a trip runs it keeps doing that in the background (with the location indicator showing), so countdowns and the host's voice continue when the phone is locked. Location use stops when the trip ends. Your location is processed on your device and is never sent to us. The only time it leaves the device is as the starting point of a drive that Apple Maps plans (see section 3). Play at home never uses your location.
3. Finding the places along your route
Maps, destination search and driving directions come from Apple Maps. To plan a trip, the app asks Apple Maps for search results and directions from where you are to where you are going; the famous roads in Play at home are planned by Apple Maps the first time you open them. Apple processes those requests under Apple's privacy policy; we never receive them.
The rivers, towns, lakes, peaks, wind farms and bridges along the route are found on your device, in a place database built into the app from public-domain U.S. government data (U.S. Census Bureau, U.S. Geological Survey and Federal Highway Administration). No other map or place service is contacted, and nothing about your route leaves your device for this. The results are saved on your device so the game keeps working in dead zones.
4. Anonymous product analytics
Window Seat uses Google Analytics for Firebase to collect anonymous usage statistics, so we can see what to fix and improve. It collects:
- which screens and features are used (for example that a trip or a home game started or finished, or which of the built-in famous roads was played), with counts and coarse buckets, never exact values;
- the app version, device model and OS version, and a random app-instance identifier generated by Firebase;
- a coarse location (such as country or region) that Google derives from your IP address.
It never collects the advertising identifier (IDFA), your GPS location, your route or destination, the places you pass, player names, or anything you type. This data is not linked to your identity and is not used for tracking or advertising. Analytics data is kept for no longer than 14 months.
5. Notifications
Window Seat never asks for notification permission when you first open it. It asks only after your first finished trip or home game, after a short explanation, or when you choose Settings → Notifications. Until you allow notifications, the app sends nothing to our notification service: no device token and no other information. Once you allow them, the app registers your device with our own notification service, push.allthingsn.com, operated by All Things AI, Inc. It sends:
- the Apple Push Notification service (APNs) device token;
- the app version and build, OS version and device class;
- your language and time zone;
- your notification permission status and your topic choices (for example, game reminders on or off, and product news, which is off unless you turn it on).
We use this information only to deliver the notifications you chose. It never includes your location, route or players, and it is not linked to your identity. Device tokens that Apple reports as no longer valid (for example after the app is deleted) are removed. To have your device's record deleted sooner, contact us.
6. Playing together: Crew, Apple Watch and Game Center
Crew mode. Other phones in the car or the room can join a game over the local network or Bluetooth (this is why the app asks for Local Network access). Seat names, emoji, answers and scores go directly from device to device and never pass through our servers.
Apple Watch. The Watch app shows the current game and sends your buzzes and answers to your paired iPhone. That data stays between your own devices.
Game Center. If you are signed in to Game Center, Window Seat uses Apple's Game Center for leaderboards and achievements. Game Center is operated by Apple and governed by Apple's privacy policy. We receive nothing beyond what Apple shows on the leaderboards.
7. Trip Reels and Photos
Trip Reels are made on your device. They never show the first or last part of a trip (the privacy zone in Settings), so home addresses stay out of shared videos. Photo Library access is add-only and is used only to save a reel when you tap Save. Sharing a reel happens only when you choose to, through the standard share sheet.
8. Ratings
After a finished trip or a Trip Reel, Window Seat may show Apple's standard rating prompt. Apple handles that prompt and any rating you leave; we do not see who rated.
9. What we do not do
- No accounts, email or sign-in.
- No ads, and no in-app purchases.
- No microphone or camera use.
- No tracking across other companies' apps or websites.
- We do not sell your data.
10. Children and families
Window Seat is a family game, rated 4+ on the App Store. It is meant to be set up and run by an adult, with children playing alongside the grown-ups in the car or on the couch. It has no accounts, no chat and no way to share with strangers, and it asks no one for personal information. Seat names stay on your devices. The only information that leaves the device is described in sections 3 to 5, and none of it identifies anyone. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have, write to us and we will delete it.
11. Terms of use
Your use of Window Seat is governed by our Terms of Use and, as an App Store app, by Apple's Standard License Agreement (EULA). Play safely: the driver should never handle the phone while driving.
Changes to this policy
If we change how Window Seat handles data, we will update this page and the "Last updated" date before the new version ships.
