Best habit & daily tracker apps with no subscription, 2026

Habit trackers are almost all subscriptions now, and the model is odd when you think about it: you pay every month for an app whose entire feature is a checkbox and a streak counter. The recurring fee is not funding anything the checkbox needs. It is funding the reminders, the themes and the marketing to get the next person to subscribe.

This page collects our daily-log apps. Some are habit trackers in the classic sense: a streak, a tap, a calendar filling in. Most are logbooks for a specific routine where the habit is the record itself. A one-line-a-day journal. A hiking, boating, birding or astronomy log. A fishing catch journal. A mileage or fuel log. A prayer or mantra counter. A rain-gauge notebook. Each one is a place to write the same thing down every day and see it accumulate.

None of them sync to a cloud dashboard or nudge you with a growing pile of notifications. The streak lives on your phone and the app costs nothing per month, which is exactly the right price for a checkbox.
