What Shagun does

Shagun is the private family register for shagun, neota, and cash-gift traditions across South Asian weddings and festivals. Every family runs a mental ledger of who gave what and what is owed in return — Shagun turns that informal obligation into a clear, beautiful record.

Add a person once (name, relation, family side, city), then log gift entries whenever money changes hands: amount, direction, occasion, event name, and a quick note. The Person detail view shows their full history and a net reciprocity balance at a glance. Occasion views roll up every entry for a single event so you can see the complete picture after a wedding or Diwali.

No account. No subscription required for core use. No internet ever. Your family’s financial traditions are deeply personal — they stay on your device.

• Add people with relation, family side, and city • Log given/received entries with amount, occasion, date, event name, note • Per-person reciprocity balance (given vs. received) • Occasion view rolls up all gifts for one event • Search by name, occasion, or amount • Fully offline, SwiftData on-device storage

  • Search — Full-text search across person names, event names, occasions, and notes to find any entry instantly.

Why we built it

South Asian families exchange significant cash gifts (shagun/neota) at weddings and festivals and maintain an unspoken reciprocity obligation, but the traditional handwritten register is fragile, hard to search, and often held by one elder. When a new event arrives, families piece together what to give by calling rela…

What makes it different

Unlike generic money-tracking apps or spreadsheets, Shagun is built around the South Asian shagun/neota cultural model: people have family sides and relations, entries are tied to named occasions and events, and the core view is a reciprocity balance (not a budget or expense report). It is 100% offline and requires no…
