Best recipe & cooking apps with no subscription, 2026
Recipe apps drifted into subscriptions once they became recipe *services*: importing from any website, syncing a household's meal plan, generating grocery lists that live in the cloud. Those are real features with real hosting bills. But a lot of people just want their own recipes in one place, a converter that turns cups into grams for the specific ingredient in front of them, or a log of the espresso shot that finally tasted right.
That is what this category holds. Recipe organizers that store the card on your phone. Converters and calculators for baking, churrasco quantities and paint-style "how much do I need" questions in the kitchen. Brew logs for pour-over and espresso. Food diaries built around a specific condition (histamine, FODMAP reintroduction, GLP-1 tolerance) rather than a generic calorie count. Cellar, hot-sauce and whiskey journals for people whose kitchen has a collection in it.
The trade-off is that nothing here will import a recipe from a URL with one tap or share a live meal plan with a partner's phone. You type it, or you paste it, and it stays yours.
