Depth-of-discharge and inverter efficiency come off the top, and a generator's runtime comes from gallons on hand divided by its burn rate.

Is the web version of BackupHours free?+

Yes. Sign in with a free All Things AI account and use every screen — no subscription, no in-app purchases.

Where is my data stored?+

Only in this browser's local storage. Nothing you enter is sent to our servers, so we can't see it, back it up, or restore it. Clearing site data, a private window, or another device starts empty. Export a backup from the in-app menu to keep it.

Do I need an account?+

You can read about the app without one, but you must sign in to open it. Sign-in is free and takes a few seconds with Google.

How is the web version different from the BackupHours iPhone app?+

The iPhone app can sit on your phone with no signal during the actual outage; a browser tab needs the page to have been opened before, and clearing site data erases your plan — export a backup. Wattages are the ones you enter or pick from the presets: there is no smart-meter or inverter connection to measure real draw. Runtime is an estimate — surge loads at motor start-up, cold-weather battery derating and generator load factor are not modelled.
