How it's calculated

  1. Everything is converted through minutes of qualifying activity, then divided by the minutes each body counts as one credit.
  2. PMI: 1 PDU = 1 hour (60 minutes). ISC2: 1 CPE credit = 1 hour of activity. ANCC nursing: 1 contact hour = 60 minutes.
  3. ISACA: 1 CPE hour for each 50 minutes of active participation, and quarter hours can be reported. NASBA (CPAs): one 50-minute period = 1 CPE credit, and a program can award a minimum of one-half or one full credit to start.
  4. IACET: 1 CEU = 10 contact hours, so 1 contact hour = 0.1 CEU.
  5. "Claimable" rounds down to the quarter credit for PMI and ISACA. Your certifying body's own rules (category limits, what counts as qualifying activity) decide what you can actually report.

Worked example

A 3.5-hour workshop is 210 minutes: 210 ÷ 60 = 3.5 PMI PDUs, 3.5 ISC2 CPEs and 3.5 contact hours; 210 ÷ 50 = 4.2 ISACA CPE hours (4.0 claimable in quarter hours) and 4.2 NASBA CPE credits; 3.5 contact hours ÷ 10 = 0.35 IACET CEUs.

Questions

Why do ISACA and CPA credits come out higher than PDUs?

ISACA and NASBA count a credit per 50 minutes, so the same hour earns 1.2 of their credits but 1 PDU.

Is a CEU the same as a contact hour?

No. Under IACET, one CEU is ten contact hours. Some state boards say "CEU" when they mean contact hour, so check your board's wording.

What if my board defines a contact hour as 50 minutes?

Read the ISACA/NASBA 50-minute rows; the arithmetic is the same. Your board's definition is the one that counts.

Does this track my renewal?

No, it only converts. The full CreditKeep app tracks credits against each certification's cycle, category minimums and caps.
