What Stowed does
Free. All features included. No subscription, no in-app purchases, no paid tiers — everything works the moment you install it.
Pocket shut down on November 12, 2025. Millions of people who saved articles for years are now hunting for a new home.
— Paste a URL in 'Add article'. Stowed fetches the page and runs an on-device extractor (WKWebView + reader heuristics) to pull title, author, body, and hero image — no external service. — Read-aloud via the system speech synthesizer. Pick from Apple's neural voices, set the playback speed, lock your phone — Stowed keeps reading. — Highlight and note. Long-press to highlight; tap to attach a quick note. Stored locally. — Tag organization. Flat tags, no folder hell. Search across everything. — Pocket import. Pick your unzipped ril_export.html and Stowed imports every entry with its title, URL, tags, and timestamp — locally, on this device. Duplicates skipped automatically. — Offline reading. Once an article is fetched, it lives on your phone. — Export to Markdown for Obsidian, Notion, or anywhere else. Stowed never traps your data.
A look inside

What's in it
- Paste URL → on-device extraction — Paste any URL. Stowed fetches the HTML and a hidden WKWebView extracts the clean article body with reader-mode heuristics. The full text is cached locally for offline reading.
- Article reader — Full-screen reader with adjustable font, sepia/light/dark themes, and pinch-to-zoom typography.
- TTS playback — AVSpeechSynthesizer with Apple's neural voices. Adjustable speed, voice picker, background-friendly.
- Pocket import (real) — Pick your unzipped ril_export.html. Stowed parses every saved entry with title, URL, tags, and timestamp. Duplicates are skipped.
- Highlights + notes — Long-press text in the reader to highlight; tap a highlight to attach a note. All on-device.
- Flat tags — Type or pick from autocomplete. Sidebar filters the library instantly.
Why we built it
Mozilla shut down Pocket on November 12, 2025, deleting all user data after a 90-day export window (Mozilla official timeline + TechCrunch May 2025). Millions of users now lack a read-later app.
Who it's for
People who have tried every productivity app and bounced off the noise. If you want something calm, fast, and free, this is for you.
In one line: Save articles. Read offline. Keep your data.
