Sow smarter, grow better

Every feature, from the first launch.

No account, no login, no cloud. Everything runs on your device and works fully offline — nothing in this post is hidden behind a wall.

What Seedstart does

Seedstart turns your last frost date into a complete, personalized seed-starting calendar for every vegetable in your garden. Pick your crops from a curated catalog of 24 vegetables, and Seedstart does the math — showing when to sow indoors, when to transplant, and when to direct-sow outside, all anchored to your actual local frost date.

A clean home screen surfaces this week's tasks so you never miss the perfect sowing window. Tap any crop for its full schedule, add notes on your seed packet, and mark tasks done as the season rolls forward. Everything lives on-device, works offline, and requires no account or subscription.

• One-time frost-date setup, personalized to your zip or entered manually • Catalog of 24 common vegetables with expert-reviewed timing data • Auto-calculated indoor sow, transplant, and direct-sow dates • Weekly task list with tap-to-complete tracking • Crop detail view with schedule timeline and planting notes • 100% offline — SwiftData, no network, no account ever

What's inside

  • Frost-date calendar engine — User enters their last frost date once in Settings; the engine calculates indoor sow, transplant, and direct-sow dates for every added crop using per-crop week offsets.
  • Crop catalog — Curated list of 24 common vegetables with name, indoor-start weeks, transplant weeks, and direct-sow flag — browse, search, and add any crop to your garden in one tap.
  • Weekly task home screen — Aggregated view of all plantings due this week and next, grouped by action type (sow indoors, pot up, harden off, transplant, direct sow), tap to mark complete.
  • Planting timeline — Per-crop horizontal timeline showing all key dates from first indoor sow to final transplant or direct-sow, with status badges for completed and upcoming actions.

Why we built it

Seed-starting timing is genuinely tricky: gardeners must count backwards from their last frost date for each crop, and a missed window means buying transplants or skipping a crop entirely. Most cope with paper charts, buried extension-service PDFs, or expensive subscription garden apps that bundle far more complexity…

What makes it different

Seedstart does one thing — frost-anchored seed calendars — and does it beautifully offline with zero friction. Unlike broad garden apps (Gardenize, GrowVeg, Garden Planner) it requires no account or subscription and avoids feature bloat; unlike static charts it personalizes every date to the user's own frost date and…

Who it's for

Hobbyists who want a tool that respects their time, their gear, and their offline life.
