Grill it right, every time

Every feature, from the first launch.

No account, no login, no cloud. Everything runs on your device and works fully offline — nothing in this post is hidden behind a wall.

What Sear does

Sear is the grilling companion that lives on your phone and never needs Wi-Fi. Look up the perfect internal temperature for any cut, start a live cook timer with a target-temp reminder, then let Sear count down the rest so your brisket, ribeye, or rack of ribs comes off at its absolute best.

After the cook, snap a photo, jot notes, and rate the result. Your full cook history builds into a personal BBQ journal — searchable, photogenic, and completely private.

• Doneness reference guide for beef, pork, poultry, lamb, and seafood • Live cook timer with configurable target-temp nudge • Dedicated rest timer with local notification • Cook log: protein, cut, method, photo, rating, and free-form notes • 100% offline — SwiftData on-device, no account, no cloud

From a quick weeknight steak to a 14-hour brisket smoke, Sear keeps you confident at the grill.

What's inside

  • Doneness Guide — A seeded, offline reference of safe and preferred internal temperatures for beef, pork, poultry, lamb, and seafood — organized by cut with a color-coded doneness scale.
  • Live Cook Timer — Start a cook (protein, cut, method: grill or smoke) and watch an elapsed timer with a user-set target-temp reminder. A local notification fires when the threshold is reached, even with the screen off.
  • Rest Timer — After hitting target temp, transition to a dedicated countdown rest timer with a separate local notification — ensuring the cook rests the right number of minutes before slicing.
  • Cook Log — Chronological history of completed cooks — protein, cut, method, start/done times, photo, 1-5 star rating, and free-form notes — so every session becomes a reference for the next.

Why we built it

Backyard cooks either memorize doneness temperatures poorly (leading to overcooked or unsafe meat) or jump between a general web search for temps, a separate phone timer, and paper notes for their cook log — a fragmented workflow that causes missed rests, inconsistent results, and no record to improve from.

What makes it different

Sear unifies the three things a cook actually does — look up a target temp, run a timer with a temp alert, and log the result with a photo — into one fully offline app with zero account required. Unlike general recipe apps (Meatist, BBQ Guru) it focuses entirely on the cook-session workflow and stores everything on-de…
