What Kitty does

Kitty is the friendliest way to track shared expenses for a trip, holiday house, or any group of friends. Create a group, add members, and log each expense in seconds — who paid, how much, and who shares the cost. Kitty handles equal splits and custom share weights, then distils all those IOUs into the smallest possible set of transfers so nobody has to do mental arithmetic at checkout.

Everything lives on-device in SwiftData. No account, no internet, no subscription gating your data. When the trip ends, share a screenshot and you're done.

What's inside

• Group ledger — Create a named group with a currency and any number of members. Every expense is attached to the group and the running balance per member updates instantly.
• Expense logging — Log an expense with payer, amount, date, optional note, and a participant list. Choose equal split or assign custom shares; Kitty validates the shares sum to 100%.
• Minimal-settlement engine — One-tap Settle Up view runs a greedy debt-reduction algorithm to produce the smallest possible set of person-to-person transfers that brings every balance to zero.
• Share & export — Render the settle-up summary or the full expense list as a clean image the organizer can share to any chat app — no account or email required.

Why we built it

Group travel and shared-living expenses routinely devolve into tangled IOUs tracked in a chat thread or a messy notes app. Existing apps like Splitwise require accounts and increasingly push subscribers to a paid tier, while spreadsheets are too slow to update on the road.

What makes it different

Kitty is fully offline and account-free with a minimal-settlement engine that collapses a week of expenses into the fewest possible transfers — unlike Splitwise (cloud, freemium with aggressive upsells) or basic calculators (no persistent groups).
