Fly boxes, recipes & materials shelf, offline

Every feature, from the first launch.

No account, no login, no cloud. Everything runs on your device and works fully offline — nothing in this post is hidden behind a wall.

What Flybox does

Open your fly box on the river and actually know what you're looking at. Flybox is the offline organizer for fly tyers who are tired of spreadsheets, guesswork, and buying a third pack of size 16 black thread because they forgot they already had two.

Most fishing apps log your catch or simulate flies in 3D. Flybox does the unglamorous thing that actually saves you money and bench time: it tracks what you own. Build a visual inventory of every fly box, photograph the layout, and tag each compartment with the pattern and count. Then write a recipe card for each fly, listing the hook, bead, thread, dubbing, hackle, and every material it calls for. The magic happens when those two halves meet: Flybox derives a living materials shelf by joining your recipes against what's on hand, so it can tell you that you're three grizzly capes and a spool of UTC 70 short before your next session, not after.

Everything runs on device. There is no account to create, no cloud to trust, and no subscription draining your card between trips. Your collection, your patterns, and your shopping list stay on your phone whether you're at the bench, in a cabin with no signal, or standing in the aisle at the fly shop deciding what you actually need.

Flybox is built for the tyer who treats their bench like a workshop: the steelhead obsessive with twelve boxes, the small-stream minimalist dialing in three killer patterns, and everyone restocking before the season opener. Set a low-stock threshold per material, generate a clean shopping list, and walk into the shop with a plan instead of a vibe. Tag a box for a specific river or season, filter your patterns by hook size when you're matching a hatch, and keep separate counts for the flies you've tied versus the ones you actually fish. Every detail you record makes the next trip easier to pack for.

The free version is genuinely useful forever. A one-time Pro unlock adds power features for serious collections, with no recurring fees, ever.

• Visual fly-box inventory with photos and per-compartment pattern counts • Recipe cards listing the hook, thread, bead, dubbing, hackle, and every material per pattern • Auto-derived materials shelf that joins recipes against on-hand stock • Low-stock flags and a one-tap shopping list before you tie or shop • Per-material low-stock thresholds you control • Search and filter patterns by box, type, hook size, or material • Track quantities tied vs. quantities you fish • Fully offline, on device, no account and no subscription • Clean, fast SwiftUI design built for the bench and the riverbank • A one-time Pro unlock for unlimited boxes and CSV export, no recurring fees

If you tie your own flies, Flybox turns a drawer full of dubbing and a head full of half-remembered recipes into an organized, restock-aware collection you can trust. Download it, photograph your first box, and never overbuy hackle again.

What's inside

  • Visual fly-box inventory — Create a box, attach a photo of its real layout, and add patterns with per-compartment counts so you can see what's already tied before a trip.
  • Pattern recipe cards — Write a recipe per fly listing hook, bead, thread, dubbing, hackle, and every material with quantities; reuse it to tie consistently.
  • Derived materials shelf — Flybox joins all recipes against on-hand stock to build a live materials shelf and flags anything under your low-stock threshold.
  • Restock shopping list — Generate a one-tap shopping list from low-stock materials, set per-material thresholds, and (Pro) export to CSV for the fly shop.

Why we built it

Tyers can't see at a glance which patterns they've already tied or which materials are running low, so they overbuy duplicate supplies and arrive at the bench or fly shop without a plan.

What makes it different

Creel and most fly-fishing apps are catch logs; the well-known market apps (and 3D fly designers) simulate or browse patterns. MyCustomFlyBox links patterns to materials to buy but is a shopping-oriented catalog, not an ownership tracker. Flybox is the only offline ownership-and-restock model: it joins your own recipe…
