SpoilSafe

The power is out — here is what to keep, what to toss, and what to claim

Start the outage clock (or backdate it honestly), get a cited USDA keep / use-now / discard verdict for every item in your fridge, freezer and chest freezer, then turn the discard pile into an itemized spoilage report for your adjuster. Free, offline, no install.

What you can do in SpoilSafe on the web

1

Outage clock with honest backdating

One tap starts a live counter, or set the earliest time you KNOW the power was on — the safety math stays conservative on purpose, because nothing here senses temperature.

2

4-hour fridge and 24/48-hour freezer bars

Live SAFE / MARGINAL / EXPIRED windows against your timeline, with the full-vs-half-full freezer switch that decides between the 48-hour and 24-hour hold.

3

34 bundled USDA disposition rows

The real USDA FSIS and foodsafety.gov chart — meat, poultry, seafood, dairy and eggs, produce, prepared dishes, condiments, bakery and frozen desserts — with the fridge and freezer verdict for each.

4

Per-item verdict with the rule cited

Every ledger item gets KEEP, USE NOW or DISCARD computed from its category, where it is stored and how long the power has been out — with the exact sentence and source behind it.

5

Freezer ledger built between storms

A searchable inventory of fridge, freezer and chest-freezer contents with quantities and replacement values, so the documentation already exists when the grid fails.

6

Itemized spoilage report

Log & toss captures quantity, price and an evidence note per item; the claim builder totals the loss, holds your policy details, and exports a plain-text report or an itemized CSV.

Try it with sample data: Loads three outages (an active hurricane outage, a 12-hour grid failure and an ice storm), a twelve-item fridge/freezer/chest-freezer ledger, nine documented discards and a State Farm policy record. You can start fresh at any time.

Questions

Is the web version of SpoilSafe free?+

Yes. Sign in with a free All Things AI account and use every screen — no subscription, no in-app purchases.

Where is my data stored?+

Only in this browser's local storage. Nothing you enter is sent to our servers, so we can't see it, back it up, or restore it. Clearing site data, a private window, or another device starts empty. Export a backup from the in-app menu to keep it.

Do I need an account?+

You can read about the app without one, but you must sign in to open it. Sign-in is free and takes a few seconds with Google.

How is the web version different from the SpoilSafe iPhone app?+

The web version stores an evidence note per discarded item instead of a photo — the iPhone app attaches real photographs to each claim line and to the exported PDF. The report exports as plain text and CSV rather than the formatted PDF the iPhone app generates. The clock keeps counting while the tab is closed because it is computed from the start timestamp, but there are no background notifications when a hold window expires. Everything lives in this browser only — clearing site data erases the ledger, outages and policy details, so export a backup.
