Your birding life list, offline

Every feature, from the first launch.

No account, no login, no cloud. Everything runs on your device and works fully offline — nothing in this post is hidden behind a wall.

What Lifelist does

Lifelist is the calm, offline companion for birders who want a beautiful, private record of every species they have ever seen. Log a new sighting in seconds — pick the bird, tap the date, drop a location, add a count and a note — and watch your life list tick up. Filter by yard, by trip, or by month. Tap any species to see the full history of when and where you have spotted it.

No account. No subscription. No internet required, ever. Lifelist runs entirely on-device using SwiftData, so your memories are yours alone.

• Life list counter — your growing count of unique species seen • Quick-add sighting sheet with date, place, count and notes • Per-species history across every visit • Yard and trip lists — filter sightings by any saved location • Lifer flag for first-ever encounters • 100% offline, zero cloud, zero ads

What's inside

  • Life list & home dashboard — Home screen shows the running count of unique species ever seen, a recent-sightings feed, and a shortcut to add a new sighting. The counter updates instantly on every new lifer.
  • Sighting log — Full chronological log of all sightings with date, location, count, lifer badge, and notes. Tap any row to edit or delete. Swipe to reveal quick actions.
  • Species detail & history — Tap any species in your life list to see every sighting ever logged for that bird — dates, locations, counts, and notes — giving a personal natural history of your encounters.
  • Locations & trip lists — Save named places (yard, local patch, trips) and filter the sighting log by location to get a yard list or trip list instantly. Each saved location shows total species and sightings count.

Why we built it

Birders currently track their life lists in spreadsheets, paper notebooks or feature-bloated apps that require accounts, sell data, or hide offline mode behind subscriptions. There is no delightful, purely offline iOS app focused on the core joy of logging a lifer and watching your count grow.

What makes it different

A fully offline, account-free birding life list and sightings journal built with SwiftData — no social feed, no eBird dependency, no subscription. Where eBird and Merlin require connectivity and community, Lifelist is your private, always-available field notebook that is as fast to open as a real notebook.

Who it's for

Hobbyists who want a tool that respects their time, their gear, and their offline life.
