What your gen really costs

Every feature, from the first launch.

No account, no login, no cloud. Everything runs on your device and works fully offline — nothing in this post is hidden behind a wall.

What Genny does

If you run a generator at home or in your shop, you already know the question that never gets a straight answer: how much is this gen actually costing me every month? Fuel goes in by the jerrycan, hours pile up unnoticed, the mechanic shows up whenever the engine starts knocking — and at the end of the month all you know is that money left. Genny is a pocket logbook built for exactly this life.

Add each generator you run — the big diesel gen and the small 'I better pass my neighbour' both get their own page. Every time you buy fuel, log the litres and the naira; every time the gen runs, tap start and stop or enter the hours yourself. From those two simple habits Genny works out the numbers nobody works out by hand: price per litre over time, litres burned per hour, and the true naira-per-hour cost of running each machine.

Servicing stops being guesswork too. Set intervals in engine hours — oil change every 100 hours, plug and filter checks on whatever schedule your gen needs — and Genny counts down from your real recorded runtime, flagging what is due before small neglect becomes a big repair bill. Then the monthly report puts it all together: total fuel spend, servicing spend, hours run, and a side-by-side comparison with what you loaded on your prepaid meter, so you can finally see whether the gen or the grid is eating more of your money — and whether that solar quote actually makes sense.

Genny is 100% offline. No account, no sign-up, no data leaving your phone — everything is stored on-device with SwiftData, so it works perfectly even when there is no light and no data.

• Multiple generators, each with its own fuel, hours and cost history • Fuel purchase log in naira with price-per-litre trends • Start/stop runtime sessions or manual hour entry • Automatic litres-per-hour and naira-per-hour figures • Maintenance intervals counted in real engine hours • Monthly gen spend vs prepaid grid spend comparison • Fully offline and private — no account, nothing synced

Download Genny and find out, in plain naira, what your generator really costs to run.

What's inside

  • Generator ledger — Add each generator (name, fuel type, capacity in kVA, tank size); the home screen shows per-gen lifetime hours, total spend and current naira-per-hour at a glance.
  • Fuel purchase log — Log each petrol or diesel purchase with litres, total naira paid and date; Genny computes price per litre, charts price trends and rolls purchases into monthly fuel spend per generator.
  • Runtime sessions — A start/stop session timer plus manual hour entry records when and how long each gen ran; sessions feed lifetime engine hours, litres-per-hour and cost-per-hour calculations.
  • Service & spend report — Hour-based maintenance tasks (oil, plugs, filters) count down from recorded runtime with due/overdue badges; a monthly report totals fuel plus servicing and compares it against user-entered prepaid grid top-ups.

Why we built it

With petrol above ₦1,500/litre in parts of Nigeria and millions of households relying on generators, gen owners pour money into fuel and repairs with zero visibility: no runtime record means oil changes are missed (engines should be serviced roughly every 100 run-hours), no fuel log means price swings go unnoticed, an…

What makes it different

Unlike Loadwise, which is about load-shedding schedules and outage readiness, Genny ignores timetables entirely and owns the money side: a per-generator ledger of fuel purchases, engine hours, naira-per-hour cost and hour-based service intervals, plus a monthly gen-vs-grid spend comparison. Unlike Fuelbook (vehicle mi…

Who it's for

Freelancers, contractors, and small-business owners who want their numbers right at tax time without renting a SaaS to do it.
